Torsion Carousel Graduates: Building the Next Generation of Talent

In 2024, Torsion launched its Apprenticeship Carousel Programme – a structured initiative designed to give young professionals a well-rounded understanding of the construction industry. Through six key rotations in Pre-Construction, Planning, Design, Health & Safety, Commercial, and Operations, apprentices gain first-hand experience across the full project lifecycle while developing the technical and interpersonal skills that underpin long-term success.

One year later, we are proud to celebrate the graduation of our first four apprentices: Max Seaman, Ethan Brearley, Matthew Parsons, and Louis O’Neill. Each has completed their Carousel journey, developed strong professional competencies, and progressed into full-time roles within the Torsion Group.

The graduation event was attended by Dan Spencer (CEO), David Worsley (COO), Ed Wootton (Managing Director – Torsion Construction and Developments), Paula Smith (HR Director), and Alex Barker (Operations Director), who all reflected on the programme’s success, the progress made over the past year, and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Supporting future talent

The Carousel Programme forms a key part of Torsion’s wider strategy to attract, retain, and develop emerging talent across the business. By offering apprentices the opportunity to rotate through different specialisms, Torsion ensures that every participant builds a comprehensive understanding of how projects evolve from concept to completion.

This approach promotes cross-departmental collaboration and nurtures well-rounded professionals equipped to lead the future of construction. It also reinforces Torsion’s culture of learning, where curiosity, communication, and continuous improvement are at the heart of career development.

Alex Barker, Operations Director, reflected on the first year of the programme:

“The Carousel Programme was designed to create fully rounded professionals with a deep understanding of how a building comes to life. Seeing our apprentices grow, take ownership, and develop confidence in real project settings has been incredible. This isn’t just about learning the job – it’s about preparing the next generation of leaders in construction.”

A Commitment to Learning and Development

From day one, the Carousel has been supported by mentors across every department, who have played a vital role in guiding apprentices through real-world challenges and helping them build the confidence to take on responsibility.

Paula Smith, HR Director, added:

“It’s the passion and commitment from everybody involved that is making the programme a success. Everybody is playing their part – from the leaders of the business to the mentors in each discipline and the trainees themselves. I feel really proud of Torsion and everything we are doing to support and develop the next generation of talent in this industry.”

As the first group of graduates move into their chosen disciplines, they continue to embody the values of teamwork, ambition, and innovation that define Torsion. With every rotation completed and every milestone achieved, they have demonstrated the strength of our approach to investing in people.

This is just the beginning. As Torsion continues to expand its pipeline of projects and regions, the Carousel Programme will remain central to nurturing future leaders, supporting growth, and ensuring our culture of quality and collaboration continues to thrive.
